Meet a few of our club members!

KathyKathy Johnson, ATMB - "I joined Toastmasters to learn public speaking skills for work.  The job required occasional presentations and after one session the participants provided feedback clearly indicating that my speaking skills needed improving.  As a member of Toastmasters for several years now I continue to learn and grow in communication and leadership skills. Much to my surprise I have now learned to enjoy public speaking.  In recent years I have had opportunity to present educational sessions at conferences and this has been a challenging and rewarding experience.  Participation in Toastmasters includes the weekly meetings, speech contests, being on the executive, twice yearly conferences and many other learning opportunities throughout the year.  In addition to the Toastmasters educational program I have developed a new sense of personal confidence and willingness to step out of the comfort zone!"

ErinErin Katerynych, CC CL - "Being a married mother of two boys, makes day to day life very interesting.  I am the Executive Director of the Battlefords District Food & Resource Centre (food bank) and have been there for the last 12 years.  I've been a member of Toastmasters since March 2011.  I joined Toastmasters because I wanted to sharpen my listening skills, and quickly respond to a question in an articulate, tactful manner. Aside from sharpening my speaking qualities, listening skills and witty responses, I have also learned how to give helpful feedback, proper evaluations and received tips on running efficient business meetings."

EmiEmi Holm, CC, ALB - "I have been a member since April 2007. I joined because I was promoted to a managerial position and knew I needed some tips and practice on giving evaluations and feedback as that was part of my new job. I thoroughly enjoy the communication and leadership aspects that the club has to offer. One of my favourite parts of our club’s meeting is the giving of the Toast. We practice giving toasts because you just never know when your sister is going ask you to give the Christmas toast!"

Robert W. Johnson, DTM - "I have been a member of Battlefords Toastmasters Club 1512 since it was chartered in March of 1977. I joined the Wascana Toastmasters Club 577 in Regina in 1969, because I could not speak to any group or even one intimidating individual in an effective manner. I continue to belong in an effort to constantly put into practice what my training has taught me, otherwise I start to backslide, and old habits creep in. I notice this happens even during the summer break. I enjoy all aspects of the meeting, but must admit that parliamentary procedure is my favourite part."

BarbBarb Mitchell, DTM - "I joined Toastmasters in September 1996. At that point in my life, I was competing on a new job which required presentation skills. That need brought me to the door of Battlefords Toastmasters. I was successful in attaining the job and have stayed a member ever since because I recognize the value of the Toastmasters program. Being a member has also given me the opportunity to meet some great people from all walks of life."

RenaRena Weikle, DTM -"I have been a member since 1998 and joined after my divorce as I knew I needed to meet people and expand my network. I immediately embraced the positive atmosphere that Toastmasters promotes. I went home after my first meeting and started writing my Ice Breaker.  Having attained my Distinguished Toastmaster designation, I stay to help my fellow Toastmasters attain their goals, which in turn helps me to maintain my skills. There are other communication organizations out there but none give you a platform for continued growth on an ongoing basis."

DanielleDanielle Barrett, ACB, ALB -"I joined Toastmasters because I had a co-worker who was a member and she spoke very highly of the group. I was about to start maternity leave and wanted a way to still have a bit of professional 'adult time' in my week, even though I would no longer be working. Toastmasters gave me that opportunity. The public speaking skills learned at Toastmasters have been relevant to my career and have offered me opportunities for which I would otherwise not have been the 'go to person'. Additionally the leadership track has been extremely beneficial. Learning how to properly chair a meeting is a skill that has been immensely helpful not just professionally, but even more personally given my involvement with various community boards. Toastmasters offers many opportunities to practice giving feedback, a skill that most of us will need in our personal and professional lives. This has served me extremely well. While I started Toastmasters because I wanted to get out of the house, I have stayed because the skills I learn, and continue to learn make me a better person and a more soughtt after employee.".

KellyKelly Watt, CC, ALB - "Why I joined Toastmasters, I'll never know. It seemed like the thing to do. At first, I was very terrified but I found there was nothing to fear. Everyone is so supportive. Since joining Toastmasters, I have more self-esteem and confidence. New doors have openned up for me. I recently made a career change which I credit to my exposure to Toastmasters. It's great to meet with different people and share a few laughs."
